Lopez vs. Kambosos, Crews-Dezurn vs. Cederroos Highlight Triller PPV Card On June 19

Triller will stage two world championship fights for its next boxing pay-per-view in June.

The platform announced that unified lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez will defend his titles against mandatory challenger George Kambosos Jr on June 19. The fight headlines a pay-per-view from Miami’s loanDepot Park.

The fight was put together after Triller shocked the sport of boxing by winning a purse bid for the promotional rights with a winning bid of $6.018 million in February. That bid beat out Top Rank’s $2.315 million bid and Matchroom Boxing’s bid of $3.506 million.

Lopez fought just once in 2020, but that one victory was a resounding victory over pound-for-pound star and then-unified champion Vasiliy Lomachenko. That fight aired on ESPN and was boxing’s most-watched fight on U.S. cable television in 2020. Lopez won the IBF title in December 2019 with a second-round TKO win over Richard Commey.

Kambosos earned the right to be Lopez’s mandatory challenger for the IBF title when he defeated Lee Selby last October in a title eliminator. Kambosos is the top-ranked fighter in the IBF and WBO lightweight rankings.

In the co-main event, WBO and WBC super middleweight champion Franchon Crews-Dezurn will face WBA and IBF champion Elin Cederroos with the winner walking away as the undisputed champion.

Crews-Dezurn was victorious in her lone fight of 2021, which was an eight-round decision win over Ashleigh Curry in January. Crews-Dezurn initially lost a decision to Alejandra Jimenez in January 2020, but that fight got overturned to a no-decision after Jimenez failed a drug test. As a result of Jimenez’s failed drug test, Crews-Dezurn was reinstated as both WBC and WBO champion. She has held a version of the super middleweight title since 2018 when she defeated Maricela Cornejo.

Cederroos has won all eight of her pro bouts and became a world champion in her sixth fight when she defeated Femke Hermans in 2019 to win the IBF title. After a win over Florence Muthoni later that year, Cederroos won the WBA title with a decision victory over Alicia Napoleon in January 2020.

Also on the card is heavyweight contender Michael Hunter taking on Michael Wilson in a WBA title eliminator.

Hunter has been on an eight-fight unbeaten streak (all at heavyweight) since coming up short against Oleksandr Usyk in a cruiserweight title fight in 2017. The 32-year-old Hunter fought last December when he knocked out Shawn Laughery in the fourth round. Prior to that, Hunter fought current interim WBC heavyweight titleholder Alexander Povetkin to a draw in 2019.

Wilson has not fought since September 2019 when he stopped Gary Kopas in a fight that was contested at cruiserweight. Wilson has not fought at heavyweight since March 2019 and prior to that, he suffered his first pro loss at the hands of Denis Lebedev in 2018.

Lastly, Andy Vences will face former title challenger Jono Carroll in a 10-round bout at super featherweight.

Vences has lost two of his last three fights with his most recent bout being a split decision defeat to Luis Alberto Lopez Vargas last July. Before the loss to Vargas, Vences went 2-1 in his three fights in 2019 with the lone blemish on that record being against Albert Bell.

Carroll challenged for the IBF super featherweight title in 2019 when he came up short against then-champion Tevin Farmer. Since then, Carroll won three of his next four fights, including a shocking upset loss to Maxi Hughes in August 2020. Carroll bounced back from that loss and defeated Romic Airapetean after four rounds this past March.

Additional fights for the event will be announced in the coming weeks.
