Murodjon Akhmadaliev, Ryosuke Iwasa Make Weight For 122-Pound Title Fight; Full DAZN Card Weights

Murodjon Akhmadaliev’s homecoming fight this weekend is still on after he made weight for his first world title defense.

Akhmadaliev (121.2 lbs) and Ryosuke Iwasa (121.6 lbs) came in under the 122-pound limit for the unified WBA and IBF super bantamweight title fight taking place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. This will be Akhmadaliev’s first fight since he beat Danny Roman in January 2020 to become the unified champion in just his eighth pro bout.

Speaking on his first pro fight in his home country, Akhmadaliev said he’s excited to return home and defend his titles.

“When you fight at home, defending what belongs to you, that’s probably the most important fight. To give a good fight under the bright lights, that’s what I’m looking forward to. It’s a dream for any fighter to perform at home,” Akhmadaliev said.

As for Iwasa, he will look to become a two-time champion after previously holding the IBF title from 2017 to 2018. Since dropping the belt to TJ Doheny in 2018, Iwasa won his last two fights, with the most recent victory being against former world champion Marlon Tapales in 2019.

The co-main event will see Shakhram Giyasov take on Mexican veteran Patricio Lopez Moreno in a 10-round junior welterweight matchup. Giyasov (139.5 lbs) is looking to pick up his 11th win and snap Moreno’s (139.3 lbs) two-fight win streak dating back to February 2020.

In another 10-round fight, junior middleweight prospect Israil Madrimov (153.4 lbs) will also have his first pro bout in Uzbekistan when he takes on Emmany Kalombo (153.6 lbs). Undefeated heavyweight Bakhodir Jalovov will look for his eighth pro win when he takes on Kristaps Zutis. Jalovov weighed in at 250 lbs at the weigh-ins while Zutis arrived at a career-heaviest 255 lbs.

DAZN will air the card live from Uzbekistan at 10 a.m. ET.
