Gilberto Ramirez: It’s Nice Of Artur Beterbiev To Hold My Belts, Dmitry Bivol Is The Toughest Challenge

Gilberto Ramirez has his eyes set on the various light heavyweight champions.

The former WBO super middleweight titlist recently signed a promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions in an effort to become a two-division champion. Since then, Ramirez has been vocal about his thoughts on a number of fighters, most notably unified WBC and IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev.

The unbeaten Beterbiev shook off almost 18 months of ring rust when he defeated Adam Deines on March 20 in Russia. Beterbiev stopped Deines in the 10th round, taking longer than some had predicted. Ramirez wasn’t too complimentary of Beterbiev’s performance in the bout against Deines.

“I expected a lot more from him (Beterbiev). I thought he looked flat and dull for the majority of the fight. It’s nice of him to temporarily hold my belts, but he should know that I’m coming for all the hardware and will bring the titles back to my people in Mexico,” Ramirez said.

Turning his attention to WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, Ramirez believes he is the toughest fight at light heavyweight. Although Bivol is scheduled to defend his title against Craig Richards on May 1, Ramirez hopes to potentially fight him this summer.

“I’ve always said Dmitry Bivol was the toughest challenge out there,” Ramirez added, “which is why I want to make this fight happen. I know he’s got a fight coming up and hopefully he stays undefeated so we can make the mega-fight this summer.”

Ramirez has not fought since last December when he defeated Alfonso Lopez by 10th-round TKO.
