Carlos Gongora Signs Promotional Deal With Matchroom Boxing

Carlos Gongora continues to benefit greatly from his win against Ali Akhmedov.

The Ecuadorian super middleweight has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Boxing, joining an increasing roster of notable super middleweights. Gongora is coming off a 12th round knockout win over Akhmedov back in December. Gongora came into the fight as a late replacement and was a betting underdog. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn called the win over Akhmedov “one of the most dramatic” that he’s seen.

That fight took place on the undercard of Gennadiy Golovkin’s seventh-round win over Kamil Szeremeta in Florida that aired on DAZN. It was also Gongora’s DAZN debut, one that will likely lead him to bigger fights.

“I am delighted to add Carlos to the Matchroom team. His win over Akhmedov in an all-action fight was one of the most dramatic I’ve seen, and I believe the division stood up and took notice of Carlos’ name that night. His team say that Carlos will take on anyone, and I believe that we can make some huge fights for Carlos to chase his dream of holding all the belts,” Hearn said in a press release.

Matchroom Boxing boasts the likes of WBO champion Billy Joe Saunders, former champion Callum Smith, John Ryder and now Gongora. The unbeaten Gongora stated his goal is to unify the super middleweight division and win all the titles.

“I will not stop until I have all the belts. I want to fight the best and only the best. I want to support my family and give them a great life, one they never had before. One that I want to give them. I fight for my family and my country,” Gongora said.

Gongora is 19-0 as a pro with five of those wins taking place between 2019 and 2020.
