The “Thunderdome” boxing series will make its return next month.
Dragon Fire Boxing announced that “Thunderdome” will be back in Western Australia for its first even in nearly a year on February 26.
“I’m so glad to re-establish Western Australian boxing, its been nearly 12 months since our last event in WA and I know the fighters are over the moon with excitement about getting their careers on track,” Dragon Fire Boxing promoter Tony Tolj said in a press release.
Per Dragon Fire Boxing, the card will feature a super featherweight bout between Francis Chua and Kazeem Soyoye for a WBA regional title. In addition, there will be three fights for state titles with Dylan Winter taking on Craig Medlan, Wes Capper facing Fano Kori and Sarah Higginson fighting Danni Mace.
A number of notable boxers have competed at “Thunderdome,” whose name is inspired by the 1985 Mad Max film “Beyond Thunderdome.” Those names who have fought there include Chris John, Vic Darchinyan, Jeff Horn and Simpiwe Vetyeka. The boxing version of “Thunderdome” prides itself in having a unique setup with its venues, as there are 4 levels in an amphitheater-style, modern-day colosseum, all looking down at the ring. The ring itself is situation on a stage as the venue operates as a concert venue.
“There are many more exciting fights to be announced along with some pro debuts, one thing is for certain, 2 men enter, 1 man leaves, Welcome back the Thunderdome,” Tolj said.
