Colbert vs. Arboleda Set For 12/12 Showtime Card; Hitchins, Mendez, Ellis, Korobov On Undercard

Showtime Boxing’s December 12 show is set with a trio of intriguing matchups, headlined by rising super featherweight star Chris Colbert.

The unbeaten Colbert will take on Jaime Arboleda in a 12-round main event in December live from Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The WBA’s interim belt at super featherweight will be on the line when Colbert and Arboleda step into the ring.

Originally, the tripleheader was going to take place on November 28. However, the card got moved as a result of the sudden cancelation of a WBC bantamweight title fight between Nordine Oubaali and Nonito Donaire set for that date. Showtime revealed that Oubaali tested positive for COVID-19.

Sporting a 14-0 pro record with five wins inside the distance, Colbert emerged as one of the super featherweight division’s bright, young stars with wins in late 2019 and early 2020 against Miguel Beltran and former world champion Jezreel Corrales. Colbert also owns wins over previously-unbeaten fighters Austin Dulay, Titus Williams and Antonio Dubose.

Arboleda (16-1, 13 KO) has won his last six fights after suffering his lone defeat back in 2017 against Recky Dulay. Five of Arboleda’s last six wins came inside the distance with his most recent win against Jayson Velez ending in a split decision victory for Arboleda.

The other two fights set on that card are Richardson Hitchins vs. Argenis Mendez and Ronald Ellis vs. Matt Korobov, both 10-round matchups.

Hitchins, a 2016 Olympic boxer for Haiti, will be taking a big step up in competition in just his 12th pro bout. Hitchins is coming off back-to-back 10-round decision victories over Kevin Johnson in November 2019 and Nicholas DeLomba this past February.

Mendez is unbeaten in his last four fights since he suffered consecutive losses to Robert Easter Jr. and Luke Campbell in 2016. A former IBF super featherweight champion, Mendez’s last two fights ended in a 10-round draw, going up against Anthony Peterson and Juan Heraldez in 2019.

Ellis bounced back from a February 2019 loss to DeAndre Ware by beating Immanuwel Aleem on the undercard of Jermall Charlo’s win over Dennis Hogan back in December 2019. Ellis is ranked No. 11 by the WBA at middleweight.

Korobov has faced a number of notable boxers throughout his career, going up against Charlo, Aleem, Jose Uzcategui, Andy Lee and Chris Eubank Jr. Korobov, ranked No. 9 by the WBC at middleweight, suffered an injury in his most recent fight against Eubank and was unable to finish the second round of that fight in December 2019.
